This week went very well.
Zoo Zoom 10K
Last Sunday I completed the Zoom Zoom 10K with Matt and Jess. We found out the morning of the race we had to do a minimum 14:00 minute pace to finish before the kids races started. I was planning to do a pace faster than that, but having to and wanting to are very different. Also, the morning was cold so standing around waiting for over an hour in the cold did not help matters.
The first three miles were tough due to shin pain, but once I warmed up it was better. The intervals were different than I had done in the past which was another challenge. We finished at a 13:40 pace, but as luck would have it the kids race started a few minutes before we finished and they were using the same finish line. The result was a huge group of kids and parents stopped at the finish line so it took us 2-3 minutes to go about 100 feet.
After the race we went to the zoo since admission was free to runners and then we went to the burger place called Willie's. Really good burgers, onion rings and chili=cheese fries.
SacFit 12.5 Mile Workout
Today we did 12.5 miles with SacFit. I am actually done with training for the season, but I was there to support the group and it gave me an idea of what I need to work on for the marathon in November. It turns out I have a lot to work on. The first 8-9 miles were fine, but it started to warm up and the run quickly deteriorated. Jess and I ended up walking the last 1.5 miles, but we made it and had a good breakfast which is an annual SacFit event for the members and their families.
Next week is a step-back before the half-marathon so it is only a short 4 miles.
The next season starts on June 5th and I will be taking the reigns as head coach for the purple/magenta group. I am looking forward to the new challenges as well as completing my first marathon. Along the way I hope to PR at the next half-marathon, do the CIM relay and maybe do a duathlon along the way. It should be fun.
See ya on the trail.

Weigh-in and 9 mile SacFit workout.
I missed posting last weeks weigh-in so this will include both weeks.
Current Weight - 175.9
Gain/Loss - 1.1 pound Gain
Mood - Not Surprised
So the last two weeks had challenges in both the eating category and the fitness category. Too much of one and not enough of the other. That will change this week.
I think the only workouts I did were the two SacFit workouts and one mid-week workout. On the eating front there was some Smash Burger and Chevy's, a couple of Coldstone trips and a few cupcake incidents. Not good, but it was my choice so there is no use griping about it.
Last weeks SacFit workout was a step-back so we only did 7 miles. We were supposed to be doing pace miles which is a 6 mile workout at a pace one minute faster than the normal pace and a 1/2 mile warmup/cooldown at the beginning and end. We took the step-back to heart and did a slower pace than normal. It was cold so that did not help.
This week we had 11 miles scheduled, but I only did 9 miles at a walking pace since I am doing the Zoom Zoom 10K tomorrow. It is only 6.2 miles so it will not be that tough, except it is supposed to be raining and windy with gusts up to 30 mph. Oh well at least I know I will PR wince I have never done a 10K before.
Next week we are scheduled to do 12 miles. Since I am not doing the half-marathon in May I am not sure if I want to do the mileage, but I probably will because that is what coaches do and it will help justify the food I eat at the annual SacFit breakfast after the workout.
Wow, that was a long post. If you're still here have a great week.

Weigh-In and 9.5 miles
My weight this week is 174.8 which is 0.5 pound loss. Better than a gain any day. No real challenges this week, but I know I need to drink more water.
For our SacFit Saturday we did 9.5 miles. It was a bit chilly starting out, but once we strayed moving it was a great morning. Our little group stayed together until the aid station and two did not stop. The rest of us finished strong.

Weigh-In and SacFit Saturday
Current weight is 175.5. That is up 1.3 pounds from last week. Since I changed my day back to Saturday last week I actually started the week pretty badly. Used a lot of points on Saturday and Sabrina (that would be 1./2 half of my followers) made a cake that we of course ate every night until it was gone. Only 2 workouts also contributed. As the great philosopher Pumbaa once said "Leave your behind in the past". This week will be better.
SacFit Saturday was a really good workout. Missed having Jess along (the other 1/2 half of my followers), but I understand why she was not out there. We did 8.5 miles today and they flew by. At the end of the workout I felt like I could go a few more miles. I am trying to keep my run intervals at a 12:00 pace so I don't wear myself before the end of the run. Today that worked pretty well. A few times I found I was going 10:00-11:00, but I was able to slow it down. Previously I was doing a 9:30 quite a bit and that took it's toll towards the end of the workout. I know at this point I need to gain stamina rather than speed so I can shorten the walk intervals and eventually lengthen the run intervals. Overall pace was 14:43 which is good for a long run day.
The toughest part is doing the training, but not having any races for this season. Too many conflicts for me to commit to a race, so I just look at it as advance training for the marathon training next season.

SacFit Saturday
The day started out pretty chilly, but it was a great day for a workout. We were scheduled to do 7 miles, but ended up doing 7.32 because of where we started and where the group was meeting. Jess is having IT band issues so she joined our group for the workout. She seemed to have a good time and her pace was about 30 seconds faster than when she is running with her regular group. It was a bit breezy for the last few miles, but overall it was a very good workout.
After the workout I was able to have a nice cup of coffee and an apple while Sabrina did an 11 mile "test" bike ride to get used to trail riding for her triathlon training. One of the ladies she was riding with a a problem with her bike chain and helped fix it to get them on their way. They had a good ride and I got a nice cup of coffee. Wins all around!

Weigh In Day
First of all I have decided to change my weigh-in day back to Saturday.
When I re-committed to the weight loss I made the weigh-in day to Sunday to coincide with Sabrina's weigh-in day. In the past I always had problems with a Sunday weigh-in since the Saturday workouts/water intake/food eaten always messed with my weight so inevitable I would be up from Saturday morning.
I decided to give it a shot and I have been weighing myself on Saturday and Sunday since I recommitted. I figured I would give it a few weeks to make sure the increase on Sunday was not a fluke. Every Sunday I have increased by at least 1.5 pounds and today I was up by 3 pounds. Needless to say I am switching back to Saturdays. I know the Sunday weight gains are a false gain since I lose the gain over the next couple of days and then go below the Saturday weight.
Anyway, my weight for yesterday was 174.2 which is a loss of 2.6 pounds since last Sunday. The loss from last Saturday is 1.3 pounds which is reasonable for a weekly loss.
That brings my total loss to 30.8 since I started and 3.7 pounds in the last three weeks.
